Flashback/1983
If you watch any TV at all it is likely that you have seen several commercials for the Palm Pre phone that star Canadian actress Tamara Hope. She is creepily beautiful and serene and sort of mesmerizing. In the background of one of the commercials plays a classic '80s obscurity, Doot Doot by Freur. A brief history - among the members of the band were Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. You may know them better as the duo who went on the be Underworld. In this early '80s incarnation they record proggy synth pop. Doot Doot is a memorably loopy minor hit, and then it is over. It is interesting to note that they also predated Prince's use of glyph as name - the squiggle below is what they really called themselves. Their label balked at the idea, so they came up with a pronunciation of the squiggle - "freur". I have to admit I get a kick out of the use of the song in this commercial because I really dig the tune. Enjoy...

aweseome song and awesome phone.
Awesome song indeed.
Those commercials have captivated my attention as well, and the music was a big part of it (you're right about the creepy/serene part too). Thanks for telling me about the track.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who finds her creepy/serene!
I haven't heard this song in 20 years! (I guess my TV isn't working right)
thanks!
