Alive & Kicking At The Country Club

The Associates - Club Country

The fault is, I can find no fault in you
Assault is say it or I'll say it for you
If we stick around we're sure to be looked down upon
What better way or should I say?

Alive and kicking

Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're old and sickening at the Country Club
A drive from nowhere leaves you in the cold
Refrigeration keeps you young I'm told
Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're old and sickening at the Country Club
Your limitations are our every care
Every breath you breath belongs to... someone there

At all's two words could they be soldered as one
Therein lies the perfect pseudonym
To think you've learned to know someone and find
That you don't know don't know them at all

Alive and kicking

Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're always sickening at the Country Club
A drive from nowhere leaves you in the cold
Refrigeration keeps you young I'm told
Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're old and sickening at the Country Club
Your limitations are our every care
Every breath you breath belongs to... someone there

Sad to see that you're suffering
Work hard at being a something
Sad to see that you're suffering
Work hard at being a something
Sad to see that you're suffering
Work hard at being a something

Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're old and sickening at the Country Club
A drive from nowhere leaves you in the cold
Refrigeration keeps you young I'm told
Alive and kicking at the Country Club
We're always sickening at the Country Club
Your limitations are our every care
Every breath you breath belongs to someone there

Funky Friday Play List

It has been one hell of a crazy last couple of days, eh? Time to unwind with the beats you need to chill/party/rock the house with. A good selection - a couple of '80s classics by Herbie Hancock & M+M given the re-edit treatment by two of my faves, Dave Wrangler & Sir Billy. Alan Wilkis delivers a slice of prime Minneapolis sound funk. The Herbaliser Band are straight up live killer funk. The 18 Carat Love Affair give good synth rock disco. Stevie Wonder in dub? Oh yes... Lee Perry + Dubblestandart + Ari Up = skankin' goodness in Austria meets Jamaica dub stylee topped with post punk legend. Whomadewho give you a sweet bit of electro pop deliciousness, Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens is pure gospel soul, and Social Disco Club given the once over by Greg Wilson is just pure bliss. Yowsah!!

My '70s Remastered

Big Star's seminal recordings #1 Record & Radio City have been available as a two-albums-on-one-CD for many years now. The problem has always been that the CD is mastered at a very quiet level, completely unfitting of the music contained within. All that has changed with Concord Music Group's remastering of the two. The new reissue also contains two tracks never before seen on CD. Suffice it to say that it sounds spectacular - punchy, loud and full of detail. It makes me so very happy. Here are a couple of classics - one from each album - demonstrating their power pop hugeness and their softer side. A must have.

Big Star - Feel

Big Star - September Gurls

Black Moth Super Rainbow Is Eating Us

Black Moth Super Rainbow are in heavy rotation here at SIART. Their latest LP Eating Us is a delicious set of psychedelic electro rock, produced by the guru of such things, Dave Fridmann. They are the perfect synthesis of the Flaming Lips and Boards of Canada, distilled into a dreamy and melancholic brew full of vocoder and wobbly synths. And now they've been given the remix treatment by another SIART fave The Go! Team. And lucky for you, the label has sent mp3 goodness for you to try at home. Enjoy!

SIART Says...

LISTEN UP.
Radioclit + Esau Mwamwaya = The Very Best.
Listen to "Ntende Uli" from their forthcoming album WARM HEART OF AFRICA. A very satisfying blend of electronic trickery and Afro pop.

SIART has been listening to a bunch of great music lately. Here are some details...
The Gossip are back with a new album called Music For Men and it is the shit. It is by no means a stylistic reinvention, just a fine tuning of the post-punk+disco formula for maximum pop impact. In other words, it is a lot shinier and slicker than the last one, and it is good. Lots of huge catchy riffs and choruses and loads of disco bass. Beth Ditto has one of the most soulful voices out there, and it is put to very good use here. The album will be avialable digitally on June 23rd but for some absurd reason won't hit stores in the US until October 6th. What the hell? I mean really - the record is done. Why not just put it out already?

Norwegian duo Datarock's new album Red is a shoo in for one of my favorite records of the year. They take all of the best that the '80s had to offer and mix it into a highly addictive and danceable set of indie dance pop rock tunes. The album is streaming on the band's mehspace. I recommend several tunes; True Stories has lyrics made up almost entirely of Talking Heads song titles and musically is pretty close too. Molly is an ode to Molly Ringwald, forever pretty in pink. Dance! cheekily incorporates a bit of Dire Straits' Money For Nothing. And the first song is The Blog, so you know I'm feeling that! All in all a really fun listen, and my kids love it. Watch Datarock's Fredrik explain RED track by track and read the lyrics here. The album is out now digitally and will be released physically September 1st. Once again, why not just put it out already?
