Forever Young

Joakim - Forever Young (Discodeine Remix)
French producer and artist in his own right Joakim is putting out a new album in September called Nothing Gold. I'm a big fan. My first exposure to him was as the producer of Panico, and over the years I have grooved to his remixes for the likes of Goldfrapp, Late of the Pier, Cut Copy and Friendly Fires, as well as his stellar production of Poni Hoax. The first single from the new album, his 4th, is this delightful track, Forever Young, which has been remixed by Discodeine. Joakim describes the song as the "soundtrack to a late beach sunset on an Indian Summer's night, a setting where time is meaningless, yet quickly fades away." All know is that I like the synthy propulsiveness of it and the nice '80s melancholy feel.

Joakim's Milky Mix

This week brings the release of the new Joakim album Milky Ways. It is a fine, fine album that mashes up disco, post-punk, psychedelia, electro, new wave, exotica and old school computer music and a whole bunch more into a cohesive package. Kind of like the sweet mix he has made to commemorate the album release. John Foxx, Vanessa Paradis, SPK and The Beatles all rolled into one? Yes please! Sound clash mix up of classics and current killers? You got it! Enjoy...

Joakim - Love & Romance & A Special Person
Milky Ways
Sept. 15th on !K7I'm pretty sure Joakim's new record Milky Ways is going to end up as one of my faves of this year. He is the production maestro behind the disco rock deliciousness of Panico and Poni Hoax. Milky Ways is his second LP, and is a tasty mash up of psychedelia, old-school computer music, exotica, electro-pop, blues, new wave and Krautrock. Suffice it to say it is right up my alley, and it has been getting plenty of play. I am a sucker for his style - it is classy yet edgy, sometimes sweet and then abrasive. Recorded with his touring band, the tracks range from funky disco to post punk to noise rock. It takes inspiration from the 80's (sometimes it reminds me of old school Roxy Music), but definitely makes something new from it. Love & Romance & A Special Person is a prefect introduction - it incorporates a groovy beat, Trevor Horn key stabs, goofy Mac talk computer voices, and soaring, dreamy human vocals, all dressed up in shimmering arpeggios. Excellent.
