Funky Friday Under The Influence

Today SIART celebrates the work of Dave Wrangler, remixer and mashup master. He has been sending me his stuff for a couple of years now, and has been a regular part of funky Fridays. He has just compiled 18 tracks of original remixes and mashups of acts such as The xx, Daft Punk, The Whitest Boy Alive, Beastie Boys, Slim Thug, Ghostland Observatory, Notorious B.I.G., Kim Zolciak, YACHT and more. He has made the whole lot available for you to enjoy - you can download tracks from his website or from his Soundcloud or nab the whole thing as a zip file. Here are a few of my personal Wrangler favorites...

Animal Collective - My Girls (Dave Wrangler Remix)
Outkast vs. Royksopp - Rosa Parks Eple (Dave Wrangler Remix)
Deeelite - Groove Is In The Heart (Dave Wrangler Remix)
M.I.A. - Paper Planes (Dave Wrangler Remix)
Lil Mama - Lipgloss (Dave Wrangler Remix)
TV On The Radio - Staring At The Sun (Dave Wrangler Remix)
Herbie Hancock - Rockit (Dave Wrangler Remix)

Inventory

Kraftwerk - Numbers
Today was inventory day at work. That meant there were seemingly endless stacks of stuff, all needing counting and computing. Suffice it to say that this little ditty by the Teutonic math nerds fits the bill perfectly, and gives you, the reader, a bit of insight into what the inside of my head sounds like today.

Random

I love me some Sergio Mendes. I like the '60s stuff and the '70s stuff - the '80s saw him lose the Brazilian plot and turn to boring MOR schlock. Now don't get me wrong - I do occasionally enjoy some MOR schlock - just not Sergio's. Now if we're talking about some bass slapping, funky goodness like Mozambique I'm all over it. Groovy beats + funktastic bass + chanting = delicious!

Sergio Mendes & The New Brasil '77 - Mozambique

Funky Friday

SIART has been slacking so far this year. There's nothing like a good Funky Friday to rectify and reboot the old blog. Today's selection includes some oldies of all ages and some slightly fresher material. All of it is guaranteed to get your head nodding and your toes tapping - maybe even a bit of booty shaking. Happy weekend!

Sly & Robbie feat. Shinehead - Boops (Here To Go) (Twelve Inch)
St. Etienne - Nothing Can Stop Us (Foxbase Beta Version)
Simian Mobile Disco feat. Gruff Rhys - Cream Dream
Groove Armada - Shameless (feat. Bryan Ferry)
Chic - Good Times (Fat Camp Edit)

Plastic Beach

Hot press release! Plastic Beach the new album from Gorillaz, will be released by Virgin on March 9th. The album is preceded by first single Stylo (featuring Mos Def and Bobby Womack) which will receive its radio broadcast premiere tonight and will be available for download on January 26. Five years on from the release of Demon Days, Murdoc Niccals and co. return with Plastic Beach. The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet. The Gorillaz' return will be marked by a headline appearance at this year's Coachella festival.
